Come scrive Giancarlo Schirru, glottologo, “il fenomeno che più attira l’attenzione di molti osservatori è la ripresa di vitalità nella scrittura sms di tutti i sistemi abbreviativi che hanno costellato la storia della scrittura latina”. 

A questa scuola appartiene Leone XIV,  aethereus pontifex (alias Leonidas Calepinus in saeculiis), che oggi pubblica nei “supplementa lexicon neolatinae linguae” una silloge di vocaboli tecnici-informatici relativi a internet.

Molti di questi nuovi vocaboli latini, sono in realtà dei grecismi (logos, aether, aelektronicum,  tele-) o parole latine (placet, cornu) semplicemente risignificate, per cui il “placet” imperiale o curiale diventa ipso dictu il placet facebook, o il cornu con il quale il comandante dava ordini “sonori” diventa in diminutivo il telefonino (corninu).

Altri sono sigle o abbreviazioni di circonlocuzioni: si veda ad esempio la lezione “aepistula”, pronuncia “epistula”, abbrev. di aelektronica epistula, o simil. aetabula, aedoc, aepictor etc.o il “brevitex” per “brevis textus nuntius”, ossia “short message service”, sms.
